At Dayspring Villa Assisted Living, we believe in continued career mentoring opportunities for our team members. We provide ongoing monthly education and training, opportunities to attend conferences and seminars as well as our own mentoring program that supports team members with a trusted guide throughout their first year.

With the assistance of Christian Living Communities (CLC), we maintain a mentorship program in which our mentors provide a “best friend at work” that new team-members can rely on. Learning a new job can be a challenge for anyone in any career field no matter how qualified the employee is for the position. There are new processes, technology, new people and new expectations. And imagine at an assisted living community like Dayspring Villa, there is also a whole new group of residents to get to know (and love).

Fortunately for our community, two veteran staff members, Lolita Barron and Paige Lucero,  have stepped up to become mentors to new staff. Lolita is a Qualified Medication Administration Personnel (QMAP) and started at Dayspring Villa in 2018. She says she is looking forward to “seeing my Mentees go the distance.” Paige is a QMAP and has been with Dayspring since 2017. Paige is excited about this opportunity because she “gets to help the Mentees do the right thing.”

Executive Director Grace Nailing  notes, “the Assisted Living Career Mentorship Program creates a clear path for initial and ongoing training for new team members, and it also allows for the growth of our Mentors, giving them increased purpose. They train our new hires and they are also involved in things like our skills fair. It benefits our new and current team members.”

Executive Director Grace Nailing  is right on point with the benefits of assisted living career mentoring. Mentoring programs are proven to increase job satisfaction and retention, and support the personal and professional development of the mentee. Ultimately this benefits our community and each of our residents.

Mentoring programs are proven to help employees

The positive outcomes of mentoring also extend to the organization such as employee engagement, satisfaction and loyalty. In addition, mentor programs can help improve in areas like diversity, knowledge sharing, on-boarding and company culture.

And it’s not just the person being mentored who experiences benefits. Harvard Business Review conducted a study researching the positive effects mentoring can have on the employee who serves as a mentor and found that mentors experienced lower levels of anxiety and described their job as more meaningful than those who did not mentor.

Another benefit of the assisted living career mentorship program is recruitment opportunities.

Studies show that 79% of millennials see mentoring as crucial to their career success. Given that by 2025, this demographic will comprise more than 75% of the workforce, assisted living career mentorship is important to help attract and retain caring and compassionate team members who our residents can rely on.

Because of our mentorship program, our staff at Dayspring Villa Assisted Living gains the experience of the mentor and can feel comfortable in their role much more quickly. They have a trusted advisor to help them through the early part of their onboarding process and a friendly face to ask questions. We are committed to our staff and team members not just because they are a big part of our residents’ lives, but also because we believe in helping our team members succeed and grow in their career. Our mentoring program is a win-win-win for our team members, our communities and our organization as a whole. We are grateful to our staff who participate and help each other as they support our residents.
